On the morning of September 5th, SDUT held a grand matriculation ceremony for the freshman of 2024 in the Comprehensive Gymnasium of Zibo Sports Center. SDUT warmly welcomed more than 11,500 freshmen from all over the country, who were to join SDUT and start a new journey in SDUT.
The ceremony was presided over by HU Xingyu, Secretary of the Party Committee of SDUT. ZHAO Qingwen, Deputy Secretary of Zibo Municipal Committee of the CPC and Mayor, and LI Yuxia, President of SDUT, attended the ceremony and delivered speeches. University leaders DENG Changliang, SU Shoubo, NIE Faliang, GUO Qingbing, CHEN Shengwei, CUI Huanyong, CONG Hailin and CHEN Jing attended the ceremony. Heads of Zibo Municipal People's Government Office and Zibo Bureau of Education, heads of relevant functional departments of SDUT, deans of schools and institutes of SDUT, heads in charge of student work in SDUT, freshman counselors of SDUT, and freshman of 2024 attended the ceremony.

Before the ceremony, accompanied by the sonorous melody of the chorus “Ode to the Motherland”, the bright giant national flag was slowly passed in the hands of the students, pushing the scene atmosphere to a climax.
At 9 o'clock, the ceremony officially began with the sound of the majestic national anthem.
President LI Yuxia, on behalf of all the faculty and students, extended warm welcome and heartfelt congratulations to all the freshmen of 2024 and delivered a speech with the theme of “Make diligent study the driving force of youth's journey into the future”. After a brief introduction of SDUT, the President expressed four hopes for freshmen around the topic of “learning”.
Her first hope is that students should have broad vision and anchor their learning direction with the aspiration of strengthening the country. By integrating their personal ideals and pursuits into the cause of the nation, they should continuously strengthen their sense of responsibility and mission to serve the country, study diligently, enhance their abilities, and let their youth blossom with brilliance through learning and practice. Secondly, she hoped that students could strengthen their problem-awareness and hone their skills through diligent thinking and question raising. They were supposed to dare to break traditional frameworks. Instead of settling for standard answers, and blindly believing in authoritative explanations, they should learn to think independently and analyze critically, ask more questions, enhance their abilities in inquiry-based learning, and hone their skills in solving problems and overcoming difficulties. Thirdly, she hoped that students could focus on their studies deeply, expanding their knowledge base through integration. They need to read widely and absorb the best from the books they read. On the one hand, they should have passion for their majors and acquire in-depth knowledge in their disciplines through sustained commitment and enduring concentration, becoming insiders and experts in a particular field. On the other hand, they should cultivate a cross-boundary mindset, daring to step out of their comfort zones and cross disciplinary boundaries. By broadly exploring and integrating knowledge in different disciplines, they could build a comprehensive and profound knowledge structure, enhancing their transferable learning qualities and abilities. Fourthly, she hoped that students integrate knowledge with action and test their learning effectiveness through practice. They should well integrate reading ten thousand books with traveling ten thousand miles by actively participating in volunteer services, science and technology competitions, and innovation and entrepreneurship activities, and daring to temper themselves in the social practice, so as to truly achieve the goal of learning for the purpose of application, promoting further learning with what has been learned, and enhancing both learning and application.
TIAN Yebing, professor of the School of Mechanical Engineering and Taishan scholar, spoke on behalf of all the teachers, encouraging students to set goals in uncertain times, learn to be inclusive in the variability in interpersonal interactions, and explore the infinite possibilities in the limited time.
FENG Yingchao, an alumna from Grade 2004 and chairman of Shandong Klein Investment Center, spoke on behalf of the graduates who stayed in Zibo after graduation, encouraging the freshmen to cherish the fine university time, integrate their personal dreams into the development of the nation, shoulder the heavy responsibility entrusted by the new era, and let youth shine more brilliantly in the tide of the times.
SONG Shuli, a student from Class 2207 of the School of Computer Science and Technology, spoke on behalf of all the students, hoping that the freshmen would firm up their ideals and beliefs, master knowledge and skills, have the courage to act, and be good youngsters in the new era who have ideals, dare to take on responsibilities, are able to bear hardships, and are willing to make great endeavors.
YAN Weichen, a graduate student of Grade 2024 from School of Agricultural Engineering and Food Science, made a speech on behalf of all the freshmen, claiming that they would uphold SDUT motto of Integrity, Learning, Commitment, Perfection, and strive to grow into good youngsters in the new era who have ideals, dare to take on responsibilities, are able to bear hardships, and are willing to make great endeavors. He also expressed their hope to bring honor to SDUT.
SDUT leaders and city leaders pinned the school badges for the representatives of the freshman of 2024.
Under the leadership of ZHANG Yuzi, Class 2402 of Chemical Education from the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, all freshmen solemnly swore an oath.
ZHAO Qingwen, on behalf of the municipal Party committee and the municipal government, warmly welcomed the freshmen. He said that with a long history, profound cultural heritage, and beautiful mountains and rivers, Zibo is a palatable city suitable for living and travelling. People in Zibo city are integral and reliable, warm and friendly. With abundant kinetic energy and vitality, Zibo boasts complete industrial systems, well-equipped service facilities, and fashionable urban qualities. Zibo cherishes and values talents, strives for progress and improvement, and builds a stage for every aspiring youngster to strive and fulfill his or her dreams. He added that Zibo would spare no efforts to protect everyone's growth with more quality services and more favorable urban environment. He hoped that the freshmen and Zibo city could join hands to embark on a beautiful journey of making achievements and progress together. He also hoped that all students could have high aspirations, exert and strive hard ceaselessly, dream big, seize the time, leave a solid footprint on the fertile land of Zibo, and strive to write a colorful and splendid chapter of youth.
HU Xingyu hoped that the students would inherit and carry forward the spirit of the SDUT motto of Integrity, Learning, Commitment, Perfection, cultivate the love of family and nation while tempering moral characters, pursue excellence in diligent learning and deep thinking, hone super skills in practice, climb the mountain of success in life through hard work, and strive to contribute youth and power to the great cause of national rejuvenation.
The ceremony ended with the passionate and majestic school anthem of “You Accompany Me”.
